IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 13: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into the alleged municipal recruitment scam by conducting raids at six to seven locations across Kolkata and its suburban areas. An ED team has also reached the residences of Trinamool Congress MLA and former minister Madan Mitra. Search operations have been underway since the morning at his houses in Bhawanipur and Kalighat.

Apart from Madan Mitra’s residences, another ED team has carried out searches in the Behala area. The central investigating agency is probing alleged irregularities in recruitments across several municipalities. According to sources, the officials visited Madan Mitra’s premises to gather information related to certain aspects of recruitment in the Kamarhati Municipality. It is not yet clear at which of his residences Madan Mitra is currently staying.

The ED stated that searches are being conducted at seven locations linked to the Trinamool MLA and former minister as part of the investigation into alleged corruption in municipal appointments. The agency’s investigation so far has reportedly revealed allegations that Madan Mitra accepted bribes in the form of cash and gold through middlemen in exchange for providing jobs to ineligible candidates in Kamarhati Municipality and other civic bodies.

ED sources, more than 125 such allegedly illegal appointments have been traced, and the agency suspects a connection between these recruitments and Madan Mitra. The investigation is currently underway, with central officials continuing their searches to uncover further evidence related to the alleged recruitment irregularities.
