Doctor Pragya Deepa Halder's Partner Sent to Jail for 14 Days
Kolkata, (July 8, 2023) : The partner of doctor Pragya Deepa Halder, who was found dead in her home on June 24, has been sent to jail for 14 days. The accused, Lieutenant Colonel K.S. Sarbadhikari, was produced in the Barasat Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) Court on Friday. He was remanded in custody after the prosecution argued that he was a flight risk and that there was a possibility of tampering with evidence.
The prosecution also presented evidence that Halder had been subjected to mental and physical abuse by Sarbadhikari. This included injuries to her back, which the prosecution said were consistent with being beaten. Halder's diary was also presented as evidence. In it, she wrote about being called names and being discriminated against because of her caste. Sarbadhikari's lawyer, Sudip Maiti, argued that Halder's death was a result of her long-term depression. He also said that she was taking medication for her mental health.
