Kolkata (August 02,2023) : Child trafficking is on the rise in Kolkata and West Bengal, with police reporting a significant increase in cases in recent months. In one recent case, a couple was arrested for selling their eight-month-old son for ₹2 lakh. In another case, a woman was arrested for trying to sell her 10-year-old daughter for ₹50,000.

The police say that the rise in child trafficking is being driven by a number of factors, including poverty, lack of education, and the growing demand for child labor and sexual exploitation. They are working to raise awareness of the issue and to crack down on the traffickers.
