IIE DIGITAL DESK : Washington, March 19: Donald Trump has claimed that Israel carried out a strike on a key Iranian gas facility without prior knowledge or approval from the United States, intensifying concerns over escalating tensions in West Asia and their impact on global energy markets.

According to Trump, the attack targeted Iran’s strategically significant South Pars Gas Field, one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. In a post shared on Truth Social, the US President stated that Israel launched a “strong strike” on the facility amid rising hostilities in the region. However, he noted that only a relatively small portion of the vast installation was affected by the attack.

Trump emphasized that the United States had no prior information about the strike, asserting that Washington was completely unaware of Israel’s plans. He also clarified that Qatar had no involvement in the incident and was equally uninformed about any potential military action targeting the shared gas infrastructure.

Amid growing fears of a broader regional conflict, Trump indicated that Israel is not expected to carry out further attacks on the South Pars gas field. At the same time, he issued a warning to Iran, urging Tehran to refrain from retaliatory strikes, particularly against energy infrastructure in Qatar, which could further destabilize global supply chains.

The developments come at a time when tensions between Iran and Israel have already pushed global crude oil prices sharply higher, triggering volatility in international markets. Any disruption to energy facilities in the region, especially one as critical as South Pars, has the potential to significantly impact global energy supplies and economic stability.

The situation remains highly sensitive, with world leaders closely monitoring the unfolding crisis. Trump’s remarks highlight the fragile geopolitical balance in West Asia, where even limited strikes on key infrastructure can have far-reaching consequences for global energy security and diplomatic relations.
