Iran fires missiles at Israel, first retaliation since ceasefire

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Jerusalem, June 8: Tensions have once again escalated in West Asia. Israel has come under attack from Iran. On Sunday night, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a missile strike targeting Israel. This marks the first such attack since the ceasefire agreement reached between the two countries in April. Iran stated that the missile strike was carried out in retaliation for Israel's recent attack on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

The Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah remains one of Israel's primary targets in Lebanon. Israel frequently carries out strikes against Hezbollah positions and military infrastructure. Iran responded to those actions on Sunday with a missile attack. However, the missiles failed to cause any damage inside Israel, as they were intercepted before reaching their targets.

The intended target of the attack was the Ramat David Airbase near Nazareth in northern Israel. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said that the missiles launched from Iran were detected in time and successfully intercepted using the country's advanced air defense systems. Israeli authorities confirmed that no casualties or significant damage were reported following the incident.

The latest exchange of hostilities has once again raised concerns about growing instability in the region. Analysts fear that continued military confrontations between Iran and Israel could further inflame tensions across the Middle East, despite previous efforts to maintain the ceasefire established earlier this year.
