IIE DIGITAL DESK :  Veteran South Indian actor Arjun Sarja has sparked a fresh political and cultural debate after strongly defending Sanatan Dharma while indirectly responding to controversial remarks made by Udhayanidhi Stalin. The actor’s statement, delivered during a promotional event for his latest film Blast, has rapidly gone viral across social media platforms and reignited nationwide discussions around religion, tradition, and political ideology in Tamil Nadu. 

Arjun Sarja described Sanatan Dharma not merely as a religion but as a complete way of life rooted in values, discipline, respect for parents, and moral responsibility. Without directly naming Udhayanidhi Stalin initially, the actor appeared to counter repeated political statements calling for the “eradication” of Sanatan Dharma. According to viral clips from the event, Arjun emotionally argued that if Sanatan Dharma did not exist, society would lose its moral foundations and even family relationships could collapse. 

The actor reportedly compared Sanatan Dharma to one’s parents, saying people cannot simply reject their parents, and similarly cannot reject a civilizational belief system that has shaped generations. His remarks received loud applause from sections of the audience present at the event and immediately triggered strong reactions online. 

The controversy traces back to remarks repeatedly made by Udhayanidhi Stalin over the last few years. The Tamil Nadu leader had earlier compared Sanatan Dharma to diseases such as dengue and malaria, arguing that it should be eradicated because he believes it promotes inequality and discrimination. His comments created nationwide outrage, political backlash, protests, and legal controversies. Even in recent weeks, Stalin reportedly reiterated his criticism of Sanatan Dharma during proceedings in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, once again intensifying the ideological battle between supporters of traditional Hindu beliefs and Dravidian political movements. 

Arjun Sarja’s response is being viewed as significant because he is one of the most respected actors in South Indian cinema and has maintained a largely non-controversial public image throughout his long career. Known for action films and patriotic roles across Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, the actor rarely comments directly on political disputes. His sudden and emotionally charged defense of Sanatan Dharma therefore attracted enormous public attention.

Social media platforms quickly became divided after the speech surfaced online. Supporters praised Arjun Sarja for openly defending cultural traditions and speaking fearlessly about spirituality and family values.
