IIE DIGITAL DESK : Mumbai, October 12, 2026: Shares of Lenskart Solutions came under pressure on Monday, falling as much as 5.4% to an intraday low of ₹644 on the BSE after a massive block deal involving nearly 3 crore shares worth approximately ₹1,985 crore. The heavy-volume transaction attracted market attention amid reports that Alpha Wave Ventures LP was looking to offload a portion of its stake in the eyewear retailer. However, the identities of the buyers and sellers in the reported transaction had not been independently confirmed by The Economic Times.
The reported block deal took place at ₹647 per share, while media reports indicated that Alpha Wave Ventures was considering selling up to a 1.6% stake in Lenskart Solutions. The proposed sale was reported to have a potential value of up to ₹1,691 crore, with a floor price of ₹640 per share. The proposed floor price represented a discount to the stock’s previous closing price, making the transaction a key development for investors tracking institutional shareholding and trading activity in the company.
According to reports cited by The Economic Times, the proposed transaction included a base offer of approximately 0.9% equity, with an option to increase the sale by a further 0.7%. The final transaction details, including the identities of the participating investors, remained subject to official confirmation. The distinction is important because the reported proposed stake sale and the total value of shares traded through block deals may not represent exactly the same transaction.
Alpha Wave Ventures held a 3.42% stake in Lenskart at the end of the June quarter, according to shareholding data reported by The Economic Times. Promoter entities collectively held 17.53%, while public shareholders accounted for 82.05%. Alpha Wave had also sold a portion of its holding in August. If the investor completed the entire reported 1.6% stake sale, its holding would decline from 3.42% to approximately 1.82%, assuming no other changes in its shareholding.
Reports also indicated that the seller would be subject to a 30-day lock-in period before undertaking another stake sale. Investors typically monitor such transactions closely because large share sales can influence near-term market sentiment, trading volumes and the balance between demand and supply for a stock.
Despite Monday’s decline, Lenskart’s recent financial performance has shown substantial growth. The company reported a 182.3% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹228 crore in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year. Revenue from operations rose 33.6% to ₹2,214 crore, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, increased 61.3% to ₹589 crore, according to The Economic Times.
The company’s EBITDA margin improved to 21.7% from 18% in the corresponding period a year earlier. Its consolidated product margin also increased to 70.3%, compared with 68.7% in the year-ago quarter. Revenue growth was reported across both domestic and overseas markets, with India revenue rising 30.7% year on year and international revenue increasing 38%.
Lenskart has been expanding its reach across different customer segments, offering more affordable eyewear alongside premium products. Its product range includes spectacles priced at around ₹500, including lenses and a warranty, as well as premium eyewear fitted with high-end lenses. This strategy allows the company to target a wider customer base while seeking to improve operating efficiency and profitability as its business scales.
Brokerage sentiment has also remained in focus. Earlier in October, Morgan Stanley raised its target price for Lenskart Solutions to ₹718 from ₹666 while maintaining an Overweight rating. The brokerage revised its revenue estimates for financial years 2027 to 2030 upwards by 0% to 2% and increased its earnings estimates by 3% to 7%. It also raised certain EBITDA margin assumptions for the company’s India and international businesses.
The target price represents a brokerage assessment rather than a guaranteed future share price. Actual stock performance will depend on business results, valuation, market conditions, investor sentiment and other developments.
Monday’s fall therefore places the spotlight on two contrasting developments: strong reported quarterly growth and a large block deal that has weighed on the stock during the trading session. While the company’s earnings and improving margins may remain important considerations for long-term investors, the reported stake sale and the possibility of further changes in institutional holdings could influence short-term market sentiment.
Investors should check official stock exchange disclosures for the confirmed details of the block deals and the latest shareholding information before drawing conclusions about the transaction.
