IIE DIGITAL DESK : Tata Motors has unveiled the 2025 facelift of its premium hatchback, the Altroz, introducing a refreshed design and updated features across its range. The base-spec Smart variant, priced at ₹6.89 lakh (ex-showroom), serves as an accessible entry point into the Altroz lineup, offering essential features and safety equipment without the premium price tag.
The Smart variant showcases the Altroz's updated exterior design, featuring a revised front grille and a prominent black element on the bumper. While it lacks LED daytime running lights and fog lamps found in higher trims, it is equipped with halogen projector headlamps. On the sides, the car sports flush-type front door handles with illumination—a segment-first feature—while the rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillars. The vehicle rides on 16-inch steel wheels with half covers. At the rear, LED taillights connected by a faux red strip enhance the visual appeal, although features like an overhead antenna, rear wiper and washer, and rear defogger are absent in this variant .
The Smart variant adopts an all-black interior theme complemented by a white headliner. The dashboard features a minimalist design, omitting the gloss black plastic accents present in higher trims. A new 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo adds a touch of modernity. However, this variant does not include an infotainment system; instead, it comes with a smaller 4-inch semi-digital instrument cluster. Manual air conditioning controls replace the touch-based interface found in more premium versions .
Despite being the base model, the Smart variant is equipped with a commendable array of safety features. It includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers. Convenience features encompass remote keyless entry, power windows for all doors, and multi-drive modes (Eco, City, and Sport) for the petrol manual transmission. The petrol variant also benefits from an idle start-stop system to enhance fuel efficiency .
The Smart variant offers two powertrain choices: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 88 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and a 1.2-litre petrol-CNG engine delivering 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Notably, the Smart variant does not offer automatic transmission options .
With its competitive pricing and essential feature set, the 2025 Tata Altroz Smart variant positions itself as a strong contender in the premium hatchback segment. It aims to attract budget-conscious buyers seeking a stylish and safe vehicle without the additional cost of high-end features. By offering key safety equipment and a refreshed design, Tata Motors continues to strengthen its presence in the competitive Indian hatchback market.
