IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Hooghly, June 6: Tension gripped the Dongol area of Arambagh on Saturday after a vehicle loaded with ration commodities was detained by local residents on allegations of illegal transportation of government-supplied rice. The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police, triggering considerable commotion in the locality.

Several individuals allegedly associated with a ration dealer from the Doharkundu area were found transferring rice from government-issued sacks into ordinary bags before transporting it elsewhere. Local BJP leaders claimed that allegations of such irregularities had been surfacing for a long time.

Local residents along with BJP workers kept a close watch on the area and eventually intercepted the vehicle carrying the rice. They alleged that the rice was being moved in ordinary sacks instead of government ration bags, which raised suspicion regarding the legality of the consignment.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly told locals that he was not fully aware of the destination of the goods. It was further alleged that he was unable to produce any valid documents related to the transportation of the rice when questioned. Following this, the Arambagh Police Station was informed about the matter.

Police personnel soon arrived at the scene, detained the vehicle, and took it to the police station for further investigation. According to police sources, a member of the ration dealer’s family has also been brought to the police station for questioning in connection with the incident.

The ration dealer’s family has strongly denied all allegations. The dealer’s son and wife described the accusations as completely baseless and politically motivated. They alleged that attempts were being made to deliberately implicate their family in the matter.

Police from Arambagh Police Station have initiated an investigation to determine the actual circumstances surrounding the incident. Administrative sources stated that a clearer picture will emerge only after the completion of the investigation and submission of the official report.
