IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Nandigram, June 8: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader from Kalicharanpur area, Abdul Alim Alrazi, has been arrested by police, triggering widespread tension across Nandigram.

Abdul Alim Alrazi had been absconding for a long time and was wanted in multiple cases. His arrest has created significant political and public reactions in the region, especially given the seriousness of the charges linked to his name.

Police officials said that the accused is involved in several non-bailable cases. His name had earlier surfaced in connection with the murder of BJP worker Rathi Bala Aree during the 2024 Lok Sabha election period at Monsha Bazar under Sonachura Gram Panchayat in Nandigram. He is also accused in an NIA-linked case related to the 2022 card bank election violence and bomb blast incident at Kanchannagar High School. Additionally, he faces multiple allegations of assault and attacks on opposition party workers.

Police have not officially confirmed under which specific case he was arrested. After his arrest, Abdul Alim Alrazi was taken to Nandigram Super Speciality Hospital on Monday for a medical examination. For security reasons, he was escorted by police with restraints during transit.

Tension escalated further outside the hospital when a group of agitated locals reportedly shouted slogans calling him a “thief” and threw eggs at him during the medical check-up process. The incident created unrest in the area, prompting authorities to deploy additional police forces to bring the situation under control.

Police officials have stated that interrogation is currently underway as part of the ongoing investigation, and further legal action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
