IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Bankura, June 29: The cultural and symbolic change has taken place at the Mukutmanipur tourist centre in West Bengal, where full-length statues of tribal icons Sidhu and Kanhu, leaders of the historic Santhal rebellion, have been installed. The installation has replaced the earlier “Biswa Bangla Globe” structure placed atop a deer sculpture, marking a notable redesign of the site’s visual identity.

The statue installation work has reached its final stage ahead of the upcoming state-level Hul Diwas celebrations. The Chief Minister is scheduled to unveil the statues on Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by floral tributes in honour of the tribal leaders.

Preparations for the state-level Hul Diwas programme are in full swing at the nearby Eklavya Model Residential School grounds in Ranibandh, with a large stage and event infrastructure being set up for the occasion. The administration expects a massive public gathering during the celebrations.

The installation of Sidhu-Kanhu statues in the tribal-dominated Jangalmahal region has generated a strong wave of enthusiasm among local residents. Many locals have expressed that the move reflects greater recognition of tribal history and identity in the region.

Residents have also stated that recent government initiatives have improved focus on tribal welfare and development in the area. The event is being seen as part of a broader effort to highlight indigenous culture and historical contributions of tribal communities in West Bengal.

Extensive administrative preparations are underway, with multiple review meetings held involving ministers, district officials, police authorities, and senior administrative officers to ensure smooth conduct of the programme. Arrangements related to security, traffic management, parking, and crowd control are being closely monitored.

Officials anticipate a large turnout at the event. Cultural performances featuring traditional tribal art forms, including Dhamsa-Madal and folk music, are also expected to be a key highlight of the celebrations, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jangalmahal.
