IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Birbhum, June 8: The allegations of post-poll violence have surfaced in Birbhum district, where a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was allegedly attacked by a group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters. The incident took place on Sunday night in Ward No. 22 of Bolpur town.

The victim, identified as Dipankar Roy, was allegedly assaulted at his residence, where he was severely beaten and his house was also vandalized during the attack. The accused group reportedly fled the scene after the incident, leaving the victim critically injured.

Dipankar Roy was first taken to Bolpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. However, due to the deterioration of his condition, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Durgapur. As his health further worsened, arrangements were reportedly being made to transfer him to another private hospital outside the state for advanced medical care.

Monday morning, the victim’s family lodged a written complaint at Bolpur Police Station, alleging political violence and naming several individuals. In response, police detained two BJP workers for questioning. However, the main accused, identified as BJP leader Sumit Mandal, remains absconding, according to the family’s claims.

The incident has intensified political tension in the region, with allegations of ongoing post-election violence resurfacing once again in Birbhum. The district has witnessed similar incidents in the past, including a previous case in Bahiri Panchshoa where a TMC worker was allegedly beaten to death by individuals linked to BJP-backed groups, further escalating political hostility in the area.

Police investigations are currently underway, and authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. The situation remains sensitive as political parties continue to trade allegations over the incident.
