
The incident took place in the Tarahat area under Mandaran Gram Panchayat. On Monday morning, a group of fishermen had gone to a pond near Piratala for fishing. However, instead of fish, their net reportedly brought up a large gun.
Panic spread among the fishermen after the discovery. Fearing trouble, they immediately abandoned the weapon on the pond bank and fled the scene. Later, locals noticed the firearm and informed the Goghat police station. Police soon reached the spot and recovered the gun for investigation.
The incident has triggered political tension in the area. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the weapon was stored for spreading post-election violence in the region, claiming that it was linked to Trinamool Congress activities.
The Trinamool Congress has not yet issued any official response regarding the allegations. Police have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the firearm and whether it was illegally stored or dumped in the pond.
