IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Falta, June 8: The arrest of Jahangir Khan, with residents reportedly celebrating following the news of his detention. The atmosphere in the area turned tense as the situation escalated into violence and vandalism targeting his political establishments.

Soon after news of his arrest spread on Monday, a section of residents allegedly attacked and vandalised his party office located in Sripuram, Falta. Reports also suggest that his locked residence and vehicle were damaged by an angry crowd. Heavy police deployment was later made at the site to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

Jahangir Khan had allegedly occupied roadside drainage land (nayanjuli) to construct his party office, which had been a long-standing grievance in the area. Following his arrest, many locals demanded the demolition of the structure, expressing anger over alleged illegal encroachments.

Jahangir Khan, who was known as a dominant political figure in Falta, was arrested by police in connection with ongoing investigations. The Trinamool Congress leader was detained by the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police near the India-Nepal border.

Police sources said that Jahangir was allegedly attempting to flee towards Nepal when STF officials, acting on intelligence inputs, intercepted and arrested him near the border region. His arrest has triggered widespread reactions in the locality, with celebrations as well as incidents of violence reported.

The area to prevent further unrest, while investigations into the case and alleged illegal activities linked to the accused are continuing. Police are also assessing damage caused during the mob attack on his office and property.
