IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have scripted a remarkable turnaround in their campaign after a disappointing start to the season, reigniting their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. Following just one win in their first six matches, the team was widely written off by many observers. However, a strong resurgence in the latter half of the league stage has brought them firmly back into contention.

KKR have now won six of their last seven matches, including a crucial victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, marking one of the most significant comebacks of the season. After the win, captain Ajinkya Rahane opened up about the reasons behind the team’s revival, crediting confidence, composure in key moments, and strong internal belief as the driving forces.

Rahane explained that the team had multiple discussions after their poor start and identified that while they were not playing badly, they were failing to execute in crucial situations. According to him, the difference in results came down to handling pressure at key moments rather than a lack of skill or effort. He emphasized that the team never lost belief in their ability to turn things around.

The KKR skipper also highlighted the role of the coaching staff and support system during the difficult phase. He noted that the dressing room environment remained positive throughout, with coaches consistently backing the players and maintaining morale. Rahane said that the unwavering support helped the team stay focused on preparation rather than frustration, which eventually translated into improved performances on the field.

KKR’s resurgence has been the contribution of several key players. Rahane praised all-rounder Cameron Green, who has increasingly made an impact with the ball after initially not being used in that role. He described Green as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket in the T20 format, highlighting his growing influence on matches.

The captain also acknowledged the performances of Rovman Powell, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine, who have played crucial roles in both batting and bowling departments. Their consistent contributions have helped stabilize the team during high-pressure situations and provided match-winning moments throughout the recent winning streak.

Rahane gave special mention to domestic talents such as Anukul Roy and Kartik Tyagi, praising their ability to perform under pressure. He stated that their efforts have been extremely valuable for the team, especially in tightly contested matches where young players have stepped up when needed.

KKR’s dramatic turnaround has made the playoff race significantly more competitive, transforming what once looked like a struggling campaign into a strong late-season challenge built on belief, discipline, and timely performances.
