IIE Digital Desk : Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has blasted the BCCI selectors for making Shikhar Dhawan captain of the Indian team for the tour of Sri Lanka in 2021. Vengsarkar, who captained India from 1989 to 1992, said that Dhawan was not the right choice for the captaincy and that the selectors had made a "big mistake".

"I don't think Shikhar Dhawan is the right choice for captaincy," Vengsarkar told Hindustan Times. "He is a good player but he is not a leader. The selectors have made a big mistake by making him captain." Vengsarkar also said that the selectors had not groomed any young players for the captaincy role.

"The selectors have not groomed any young players for the captaincy role," Vengsarkar said. "They have just been picking and dropping players. This is not the way to build a team." Vengsarkar's comments come after India lost the Test series 1-2 to Sri Lanka. Dhawan was criticized for his captaincy during the series, with many pundits saying that he was too defensive and that he did not have a clear plan for how to win matches.

Dilip Vengsarkar's comments are a major blow to the BCCI selectors. Vengsarkar is one of the most respected voices in Indian cricket and his comments will carry a lot of weight. The BCCI selectors will now have to decide whether to stick with Dhawan as captain or to look for a new leader. If they decide to stick with Dhawan, they will need to give him more support and help him to develop his captaincy skills.

If they decide to look for a new leader, they will have a tough task on their hands. There are no obvious candidates for the captaincy role and the selectors will need to find someone who can unite the team and lead them to victory.
