IIE DIGITAL DESK : The Bangladesh cricket team produced a commanding performance to complete a historic Test series whitewash over Pakistan, winning the final match by 78 runs at Sylhet.

The fifth and final day of the Sylhet Test began under cloudy conditions and was briefly interrupted by rain. However, play resumed shortly after the delay, with Pakistan needing 121 runs to win and Bangladesh requiring just three wickets to seal victory.

Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained tight pressure. Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan, who was closing in on a well-deserved century and needed just six more runs, was dismissed by Shoriful Islam, breaking a crucial partnership that had offered some resistance. Earlier, Taijul Islam removed Sajid Khan, who had contributed to a 54-run stand with Rizwan.

Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 358 runs, falling short of the target of 437 set by Bangladesh. The dismissal of the final wicket confirmed a comprehensive 78-run victory for Bangladesh in the match.

Bangladesh completed a clean sweep of the Test series against Pakistan, marking a significant achievement in their cricketing history. This result also comes as a continuation of their strong performances against Pakistan, having previously secured a Test whitewash on Pakistani soil two years ago. The latest victory reinforces Bangladesh’s growing strength in Test cricket, especially in home conditions.

The defeat adds to Pakistan’s recent struggles in red-ball cricket, while Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling and crucial breakthroughs on the final day proved decisive in sealing the series.
