New Delhi: On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha called for an urgent debate in Parliament on the police's crackdown on students who took part in a recent CJP demonstration in Delhi. Gandhi denounced the incident, alleging that peaceful demonstrators had been subjected to excessive force and insisted that the House should urgently address the matter.

Outside Parliament, the leader of Congress addressed the media and expressed his concern about the way students were treated when they had assembled to discuss examination irregularities, including the NEET paper leak. He accused the government of not engaging in dialogue and instead responding with force to the demands of young people.

Gandhi maintained that students have the right to peacefully protest their views and cautioned that any attempt to suppress their voices would be a violation of democratic values. He vowed that the Opposition would persist in raising the issue both at Parliament and in public places, to ensure that students' concerns are not disregarded. Tensions reportedly increased during the protest due to clashes between demonstrators and security personnel. According to reports, tear gas and baton charges were used to scatter the crowd, causing injuries to several participants. The police are investigating the incident. But officials justified their actions, saying they did everything necessary to maintain law and order.

Apart from making public statements, Gandhi engaged in discussions with opposition MPs during the current Parliamentary Monsoon Session to determine the most effective way to raise this matter. But opposition members want the incident to be dragged down to detail, saying it's not just about student welfare but about civil liberties and democratic rights at its core.

A new political conflict has arisen between the government of BJP and the opposition parties following the episode. Accusations have been made by Congress leaders that the Centre is not sensitive to the concerns of students, while government officials maintain that security agencies acted responsibly to prevent disruptions and ensure public safety. The issue will continue as Parliament sits down and politics shifts in the next few days. While calling for reforms aimed at strengthening the integrity of the country's examination system, opposition parties are expected to demand accountability and transparency regarding the police action.

But the controversy has added to what is already an emotive topic: Education-related issues and the future of millions of pupils are now at stake in the Monsoon Seversion. As the two sides continue to hold firm in their positions, it is likely to remain a significant political upheaval for several days.
