Jatin Khanna was killed on August 2 while he was returning home on his motorcycle near the Mukundpur flyover in North-West Delhi. According to the family’s allegation, a speeding vehicle hit Jatin and fled from the spot after the accident. They have also alleged that Jatin remained injured and lying on the road for a considerable period before receiving timely medical assistance.
Despite 60 days having passed since the incident, the Delhi Police have not been able to trace the vehicle allegedly involved in the accident, according to the family. The delay has intensified the family’s anger and prompted Jatin’s father to begin a hunger strike outside the DCP’s office.
Speaking from the protest site on Friday night, Praveen Khanna expressed deep frustration over the progress of the investigation. He questioned why the police had not been able to identify the vehicle involved in what has been described as a hit-and-run case.
“It has now been two months since my son’s accident. Even though it has been described as a hit-and-run case, the police have still not been able to tell us which vehicle hit him. Either he was killed or he died after being hit by a vehicle. Even if it was an accident, the vehicle could at least have been identified and seized. The police have not been able to find any clue about the vehicle,” Jatin’s father said.
The family has been demanding that the authorities take concrete steps to identify the vehicle and determine exactly what happened on the day of the incident. Their protest has also raised questions over the pace of the investigation and the police response following the accident.
With the alleged vehicle and driver still untraced, the family says it will continue its protest until it receives satisfactory answers from the authorities. The hunger strike outside the DCP office has brought renewed attention to the case as Jatin’s family continues to seek justice and clarity over the circumstances surrounding his death.
