Guwahati(June 30,2023) : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that "no one should try to take advantage of the violence" that took place during the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Manipur on Friday. Sarma, who is also the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam, said that the violence was "unfortunate" and that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. He also said that the Congress party should not try to "politicize" the violence.

The violence in Manipur took place when Gandhi was visiting the Churachandpur district to meet the family of a youth who was killed in a police firing. Gandhi was forced to cut short his visit and return to Imphal after the violence broke out. The Congress party has accused the BJP of being behind the violence. However, the BJP has denied the allegations. Sarma's statement comes amid a political slugfest between the BJP and the Congress in Manipur. The two parties are gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
