IIE Digital Desk: The formation of a powerful task force, headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, has been announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modijin in response to the protest over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the resignation from former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The Prime Minister expressed his determination to restore students' confidence in competitive exams and ensure that future exams are transparent, technology-based, and free from malpractice in a video message. Those who violate the integrity of examinations are being subject to strict legal measures, as per his statement.

A panel, under the leadership of Nilekani and his colleagues recently, has been mandated to review the country's examination system for structural and technological changes. A task force has been established by the government to enhance digital security, prevent paper leaks, and enhance transparency. Following weeks of student-led protests across the country over the purported leakage into the NEET-UG exam system, the announcement is expected to form a foundation for rewiring the examination system. The protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), resulted in the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and the termination of their agitation. The demonstrators' organizers stated that the Centre had agreed to their key reform demands.

The Centre has announced that it will introduce legislation to strengthen anti-paper leak provisions and impose stricter penalties for those who engage in examination fraud. As part of the proposed reforms, the government will integrate technological protection and organizational adjustments to improve public examinations' security and credibility.

The timing of the announcement has been disputed by the Opposition. However, Congress leaders characterized the task force's establishment as an attempt to shift focus from the NEET paper leak scandal and recommended that the government should prioritize fixing current problems in the examination system before forming new panels.

The task force represents one of the most significant policy responses the government has given to the examination controversy. The initiation of work will involve the monitoring by students, educators, and policymakers to determine if the proposed reforms can restore confidence in India's competitive examination system and prevent similar crises from occurring again.
