IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 18: Preparations for the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21 have reached their peak across West Bengal, with various districts actively engaged in yoga practice sessions.

This year, the main state-level event will be held at Red Road in Kolkata. From this central programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in celebrating International Yoga Day. Across Kolkata and the wider West Bengal region, preparations are currently underway on a large scale, with educational institutions and several public spaces conducting regular yoga practice sessions in anticipation of the event.

The theme for this year’s International Yoga Day has been announced as “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” focusing on promoting wellness and healthy living among people of all age groups, especially the elderly. Even before June 21, districts across the state have already begun organised yoga practice activities as part of the build-up to the main event.

It is noteworthy that after the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, the Prime Minister has been celebrating the occasion every year in different parts of the country. Last year, he participated in the celebrations in Visakhapatnam. In 2024, he was in Srinagar, Kashmir, on the banks of Dal Lake, and in 2023, he marked the day at the United Nations Headquarters. In 2026, his destination for the celebration will be Kolkata.
