Kolkata (June 21,2023) : Kolkata's Rath Yatra celebrations were marred by a massive traffic jam on Sunday. The procession, which started from the Red Road and ended at the Rabindra Sarobar, caused traffic to come to a standstill in several areas of the city. Motorists and pedestrians alike were left stranded for hours, as vehicles crawled at a snail's pace. The situation was particularly bad in areas such as Esplanade, Park Street, and Gariahat.

Many people were forced to abandon their vehicles and walk to their destinations. Others took to social media to vent their frustration. The traffic jam was caused by the large number of people who had turned out to see the Rath Yatra. The procession was also longer than usual this year, which added to the congestion.

The Kolkata Police had made elaborate arrangements to manage the traffic, but they were unable to prevent the jam. The traffic jam caused widespread inconvenience, and it is likely to be a talking point for some time to come.

The Kolkata Police should review their traffic management plans for future Rath Yatras. They should also work with the organizers of the event to ensure that the procession is shorter and does not cause as much disruption.
