Kolkata (July 25,2023) : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday inaugurated a new medical college and hospital in Howrah. The college has been named after freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The new medical college and hospital has a capacity of 500 beds. It has 100 MBBS seats and 60 seats each for postgraduate courses in general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and anesthesia.

The college has been built at a cost of Rs 250 crore. It is equipped with modern facilities, including a CT scan machine, an MRI machine, and an operation theater. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Banerjee said that the new medical college and hospital will provide quality medical education and healthcare to the people of Howrah and nearby districts. She also announced that the state government will soon open two more medical colleges in Bankura and Purulia.
