IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, May 19:  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to the renowned Bengali writer Manik Bandopadhyay on his birth anniversary. In a social media post on Tuesday, she wrote, “On the birth anniversary of the eminent Bengali writer Manik Bandopadhyay, I offer my heartfelt respects.”

Manik Bandopadhyay, whose real name was Probodh Kumar Bandopadhyay, is regarded as one of the leading figures of the realist movement in Bengali literature. His writings deeply reflect the social tensions, economic inequalities, and human crises that followed the First World War. Bandopadhyay is recognized as one of the pioneers of modern and revolutionary trends in Bengali literature.

Born on May 19, 1908, in Dumka in the then Bihar’s Santhal Parganas, now part of Jharkhand, he authored numerous novels and short stories. His notable works include Padma Nadir Majhi and Putul Nacher Itikatha, among others, which continue to be highly regarded in Bengali literary circles.

Mamata Banerjee’s tribute highlights the enduring legacy of Manik Bandopadhyay in shaping modern Bengali literature and his influence on generations of readers and writers.
