Intermittent Rain Forecast in Kolkata for Three Days, South Bengal on Alert

IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata is set to experience intermittent rainfall for the next three consecutive days, with light showers expected across the city from Monday to Wednesday. The Alipore Meteorological Department reported scattered rain on Saturday afternoon, while Sunday remained overcast, and Monday morning saw minimal sunlight. Meteorologists predict this cloudy pattern with occasional thunderstorms will continue over the next few days, providing only light rainfall without any significant heavy downpours.

South Bengal districts including South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Bankura, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia have been issued separate warnings. Thunderstorms in these areas may be accompanied by strong winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, with Birbhum and Paschim Bardhaman potentially seeing gusts up to 50 kilometers per hour. Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and while commuting, though major disruptions are not expected.

North Bengal districts are also expected to witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms until Sunday. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Malda have been specifically alerted for Monday and Tuesday, while Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar remain under caution for Wednesday. Despite rain and storms, temperatures in North Bengal are expected to remain largely stable.

South Bengal, daytime temperatures may rise slightly over the coming days. Night temperatures are expected to remain steady for at least the next seven days, while daytime highs will remain consistent for four days before gradually increasing by two to three degrees Celsius. On Monday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, while Sunday’s maximum temperature was 30.4 degrees Celsius, a little below the seasonal average. Cloudy skies are expected to persist throughout the day, continuing the current spell of mild, intermittent rain.

The Alipore weather office advises residents across South and North Bengal to remain aware of local weather updates, take precautions during thunderstorms, and prepare for gusty winds over the next several days.
