Kolkata (August 29,2023) : Motorists in West Bengal have raised complaints over the collection of toll tax at different rates in different toll plazas. The complaints have come from several parts of the state, including Kolkata, Howrah, and North Bengal. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the toll tax is supposed to be collected at a uniform rate on all national highways. However, motorists have alleged that they are being charged different rates at different toll plazas.

For example, a motorist traveling from Kolkata to Siliguri is being charged Rs. 25 at the toll plaza in Durgapur, but only Rs. 20 at the toll plaza in Bolpur. Similarly, a motorist traveling from Howrah to Kolkata is being charged Rs. 15 at the toll plaza in Belghoria, but only Rs. 10 at the toll plaza in Salt Lake.

The motorists have demanded that the NHAI take steps to ensure that the toll tax is collected at a uniform rate on all national highways. They have also threatened to launch a protest if the NHAI does not address their concerns. The NHAI has said that it is aware of the complaints and is investigating the matter. The authority has assured the motorists that it will take appropriate action if any irregularities are found. In the meantime, the motorists have been advised to contact the NHAI helpline number 1033 if they have any further complaints.
