IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, May 19: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday issued a strong warning following the Park Circus incident, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy against any attack on police personnel. Soon after his statement, police arrested the main accused, Faridul Islam.

Police sources stated that Faridul Islam was allegedly responsible for inciting the unrest at Park Circus on Sunday. He is accused of gathering people through social media posts, which escalated the violence. After reviewing CCTV footage, the police apprehended Faridul. Several others were also arrested, bringing the total number of detainees in connection with the Park Circus incident to 46.

The unrest occurred during a protest against multiple issues, including bulldozer actions, when demonstrators gathered at Park Circus on Sunday afternoon. Protesters reportedly threw stones at police and central forces, causing damage to vehicles and equipment. At least three police officers were injured, along with personnel from central forces, as the square turned into a chaotic scene.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the DC office in Kolkata to meet the injured officers. He delivered a stern warning to anti-social elements, stating, “Throwing stones has stopped in Kashmir. It will stop here as well. If anyone thinks the old government’s rules still apply, they are mistaken. I want to make it clear: no one should pick up stones. This is the last warning. If such incidents happen again, no police minister will be harsher than me.”

The Chief Minister also instructed the police to take strict action against the perpetrators. Police are currently interrogating Faridul Islam to identify other individuals involved and investigating the reasons behind his social media posts that allegedly instigated the unrest.
