So, when he remained silent over the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, many began wondering why the singer was choosing not to comment. Arijit has now finally broken his silence, speaking out in support of the protesting students.
The protesters had planned a march towards Parliament on Monday. They alleged that the police used batons against them during the demonstration and also resorted to tear gas. The incident sparked outrage among several celebrities, with Arijit Singh also expressing his anger over the treatment of the students.
Reacting to the situation on his X handle, Arijit wrote, “They are beating up students! Delhi Police, aren’t you ashamed? To the leaders and ministers, what is this happening? Have you started thinking of yourselves as gods?”
The singer continued to express his anger, writing, “Everything will be remembered. Har Har Mahadev!” He further cautioned those in power with a pointed message, saying, “Remember one thing, change is the only constant.”
Arijit’s strong reaction quickly won the support of his fans. Many had been waiting for some of the biggest names in the industry to speak about the situation, making Arijit’s decision to break his silence all the more significant.
Meanwhile, Arijit had announced earlier this year that he would no longer take up new playback singing assignments for films. However, he had made it clear that he would complete projects he had already committed to, some of which could continue to release until 2027.
Recently, rumours began circulating that the singer was set to make a comeback as a playback artist with Awarapan 2. The reports suggested that Arijit had reconsidered his decision. However, his spokesperson has now put those rumours to rest.
Speaking in an interview, Arijit’s spokesperson clarified that the singer had already committed to certain projects before announcing his decision to step away from playback singing. He is only completing those prior commitments and has no plans to return to playback singing. The spokesperson emphasised that these projects were agreed upon long before Arijit announced his decision.
